The Script
MUSIC: Technology News Intro
WILL: First there was guitar hero, an interactive guitar that let you rock hours of your day away.
Next there was Rockband, an interactive guitar, drum, and microphone that allowed you lead an entire interactive band.
Now thanks to TCNJ professors Teresa Naukra and Chris Ault, you can party like it’s 1455 with the new Virtual Maestro Conducting Kiosk.
According to the creators, the game allows you to interactively control of a full orchestra with a Nintendo Wii remote.
The Wii remote allows users to control the entire orchestra just as a real conductor would.
You can conduct the orchestra to play faster or slower, and louder and softer all in order have the orchestra play a masterpiece together.
Dr. Naukra originally designed an earlier version of this game for the Boston Children’s Museum to give children a real life look into what it is like to conduct an orchestra.
Naukra was soon contacted by sponsors who wanted to turn this platform into a more user-friendly version for the general public.
That is where Chris Ault and the Nintendo Wii remote came into play. Ault is an assistant professor of interactive media at TCNJ and his job was to connect the game with the Nintendo Wii platform.
Together they created nothing short of a masterpiece.
Ault and Naukra are hoping to integrate more technology like this into TCNJ’s music department.
The Kiosk is not currently for sale although there are two copies making their way around the United States and Europe over the next year.
You experience this interactive masterpiece hands on at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center until April 15.

Will,
That’s an awesome idea!! I think that’s a great teaching tool. I mean if we can do it with a rock band… why not an orchestra? I think your script was fun and informative and I think the music intro/outro were nice touches to the piece. There was some background noise in the middle of the pod cast which I would have tried to avoid because it was a little distracting. I think you have a great speaking voice but for some reason I noticed your words were a little too enunciated. I would just work on making your sentences flow more and you’ll be good to go! Loved the topic, awesome pod cast :-D

That's awesome that you incorporated music... going above and beyond.
I think your voice translates well to this, too.
The bit about 1455 was funny.
It sounded like there was a page turning in the background, but nothing major.

I remember having seen something about that Wii-conducted orchestra on the TCNJ website, but I never actually clicked on the link, so I'm glad you chose to focus your podcast on it. The idea is certainly groundbreaking and creative, and I felt that you did an excellent job of describing the process that went into the device's creation, as well as the manner in which it operates. You paced your speech well, and I particularly enjoyed the music you incorporated in the intro and outro. My only complaint would be that you should have used the macbook 1920s music that was so masterfully utilized in your budget cuts piece. ;)
Will:
Nice choice of topic, and definitely an engaging lead with the video game references. However, I don't agree with the choice to use the word "interactive" three times in the opening 20 seconds.
You have a strong voice that comes with appropriate and subtle sarcastic touches when you make the little remarks about 1445.
The background noise was definitely distracting though, watch out for that in the future. Also, how did you import the music, it sounded far away?
The writing was solid throughout, it just seemed that the technical side of things were a little off. But hey, this is a writing class and you definitely handled that part easily, so good job!

I thought your piece was well-written, and I really enjoyed listening to it. Like Adam, I also saw the link on the TCNJ Homepage, wondered about it, but never ended up clicking on it. The idea of conducting an orchestra with a Wii remote is amazing to me, and I was really interested in the story behind it, so I’m glad your podcast offered that information. Your voice worked well for this piece, it didn’t fade in or out, and I liked the music at the beginning and end. I also really liked the 1455 joke thrown in there. My only criticisms would be the bit of noise in the middle which was a little distracting, and a few little pauses towards the end, such as after the words “kiosk” and “Philadelphia’s,” but these are nothing major. Great job!
Will!
The 1455 joke made me laugh out loud!! Your writing was clever, and your voice is clear. The music was very cute. I can tell you really put a lot of effort into this assignment, and it really paid off.
Nicely done!
Will,
I love the music you used for the intro and outro. I had heard about the orchestra thing, I guess from the TCNJ homepage but I never actually read about it. Your script was great and you delivered it well. The only problem I noticed is the background noise.
Great job!

Will,
This is your best writing this semester. It proves that when you put your creative effort into something you can make something terrific. My only criticism would be to work on your voice and diction and what the heck was going on in the background while you were recording...Overall, Great Job! I loved it!
